Mr. Steckbauer is the Founding Member and Managing Partner of Steckbauer Weinhart, LLP and leads the Firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice. His focus is on commercial and real estate litigation, and he represents large and mid-sized developers, real property owners, and entrepreneurs in business and real estate matters.
Mr. Steckbauer’s philosophy in all legal matters is to conduct a cost/benefit analysis to determine whether litigation and/or alternative creative approaches are the best path to sound resolution. In cases where settlement is unattainable, he has the experience and tenacity to achieve client goals before an arbitrator, judge or jury. Throughout his 29 years of practice, Mr. Steckbauer has successfully tried numerous real estate and business disputes.
Mr. Steckbauer has been named a Southern California Super Lawyer every year since 2006, and was named one of “Southern California Super Lawyers’ Top 100 Lawyers” in 2009, 2010 and 2012. He has acted as a provisional director appointed by the Los Angeles Superior Court. Mr. Steckbauer is preeminent “AV” peer rated by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating for ethical and professional standards.
Obtained judgment after court trial in excess of $2.7 million in favor of owner/ground lessor regarding claims for declaratory relief and breach of commercial lease.
Successfully defended landlord against fraud and breach of contract claims and obtained judgment on landlord’s cross-complaint involving forgery in a multi- million dollar lease dispute during a two week jury trial.
Successfully represented owner/developer in its claims against contractor and dozens of sub-contractors for construction related defects and over charges in the redevelopment of historic downtown commercial buildings into residential housing.
Obtained judgments against the owners of the Los Angeles Downtown Sheraton Hotel and thirteen years later against the owners of Los Angeles Downtown Marriott in their repeated and unsuccessful attempts to terminate long running recorded covenant.
Successfully represented purchaser of a public company in its efforts to enforce its purchase agreement in a Federal jury trial.
Obtained judgment after court trial in favor of owner/ground lessor in its disputes with ground lessee involving multi-million dollar possessory tax and other ground lease issues involving a Newport Harbor frontage commercial building.
As a trial attorney, Mr. Steckbauer has represented landlords, developers and commercial property owners in a wide variety of litigation, including, successfully obtaining judgments and arbitration awards in his clients favor on matters such as partnership dissolution, partition, breach of lease/contract, fraud, mechanics liens, construction disputes and easement issues.
