Brian Weinhart heads Steckbauer Weinhart, LLP’s Real Estate Transactions and Financial Services & Corporate Securities practice areas, and represents borrowers and lenders in connection with the negotiation and documentation of permanent, bridge, construction and mezzanine financing, as well as preferred equity structures.  He has also negotiated complex mortgage loan work-outs and restructurings involving several billion worth of troubled commercial real estate assets.  In addition, Mr. Weinhart represents large and medium sized real estate operators in connection with the purchase, sale and leasing of shopping centers, multifamily apartment complexes, hotels and commercial office buildings throughout the United States.  He has extensive experience representing portfolio lenders, as well as originators and master and special servicers, of commercial mortgage-backed securities throughout the nation.

Mr. Weinhart has been a Southern California Super Lawyer since 2005, and was named one of “Southern California Super Lawyers’ Top 100 Lawyers” from 2007-2010.  He serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Heart Foundation at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where he is also a Member of the Heart Foundation’s Board of Directors.  Mr. Weinhart has also served as a Member of the Advisory Board of 1st Service Solutions.

Representative Matters

  • Negotiated the resolution of a distressed multi-family portfolio of over 2 billion dollars situated in more than a dozen States on behalf of project sponsor.
  • Negotiated the sale of the Wilshire Plaza Hotel in downtown Los Angeles out of bankruptcy on behalf of hotel’s ownership.
  • Represented numerous originators of commercial mortgage loans, including JP Morgan, Nomura, UBS and Thorofare Capital in connection with the origination of commercial loans throughout the United States.
  • Assisted the nation’s largest sponsor of TIC owned commercial properties in repositioning its nationwide portfolio.
  • Represented many of the country’s leading special servicers of commercial loans in connection with the resolution of hundreds of defaulted commercial mortgage loans.
  • Implemented regional commercial leasing program for major shopping center REIT.
  • Negotiated the acquisition of country’s then largest privately held multi-family portfolio.
  • Prepared Guidelines and instructed multiple special servicing units as to the rules and regulations associated with the servicing of defaulted CMBS loans.
